How PE Madness Works

1We review portfolio company value communication

We assess how portfolio companies articulate value across key buyer touchpoints like ROI metrics, benchmarks, and proven customer stories. We track these extensively in ValueHub

2Firms advance based on the strongest value signal

The firm whose portfolio shows clearer, more compelling value communication wins the matchup and advances.

3You follow along (and steal what works)

Each round includes a thought-provoking recap: what the winners do that others don't.

How We Score

Most B2B value claims are unverifiable. "Improved efficiency" means nothing without a number. ValueHub crawls public case studies and extracts the actual evidence — then scores it.

1

Crawl portfolio company case studies

We index every published case study, ROI calculator, and business review across all 16 PE firms' portfolio companies.

2

Extract value claims

AI classifies each claim as quantitative ('reduced costs by 37%') or qualitative ('improved customer satisfaction'). Quantitative claims score higher.

3

Calculate ValueScore™

Each portco gets a 0-100 score based on volume, specificity, and recency of value evidence. Scores aggregate up to the PE firm level.

4

Rank and seed the bracket

PE firms are ranked by aggregate ValueScore™ and seeded across four regions. Standard March Madness format. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.

Qualifying criteria

Private Equity firms selected to compete in PE Madness have each met our qualifying standards:

  • Assets under management (AUM) of at least $1B
  • At least 20 portfolio companies (portcos)
  • At least 10 customer case studies per portco

Data source: All data from publicly available case studies and business documents. No proprietary PE firm data used. No pay-to-play. Just evidence.
